Album Review:Sutekh Hexen-Larvae
Up and coming leaders of blackened noisecore Sutekh Hexen feature their barely audible aperture upon the upcoming album Larvae which will be released in February via Handmade Birds. The band showcases their terror induced noise injection into a 3 track journey that transcends the pounding waves of sound to create an album that can only be described as Sutekh Hexen’s hallmark release.
The album opens with ‘Isvar Savasana’ which cloaks the mayhem with an ambient overdrive that set the pace of the calm before the storm. Shortly followed by the visceral link between black metal and noise, colliding into a plateau of pure unadulterated brutality that drives its way into your very soul. Bursts of fading melody contrast similar styles that fans of Sutekh Hexen may perceive in welcoming fashion.
Larvae stands above the band’s previous releases by focusing upon the incantations of light, versus the previous points of various dark themes, the bearing between both sides of the spectrum will surprise listeners as much as it will enchant the beaten senses. The finality of the albums comes by way of the track ‘Let There Be Light’ and shows an acoustic layout being decimated by background noise and Dwid Hellion’s inaudible mumblings which add a richer layer of perception. This is offset by the ending earsplitting riffage that will catch the listener off guard and quaking in the aftermath.
Bottom line, Larvae is an album that you will either love or hate, for fans of the band’s prior releases this will be a welcomed addition to a very impressive addition to the band’s furthering career. If not, then listeners may have a hard time trying to perceive the depths into which Sutekh Hexen transcends conventional boundaries and creates something that is well on its way to being defined within its own genre.
