San Diego’s tech death outfit Temblad put out a 4 track EP in August of 2011 titled Mockery Of The Fanatic, and shows yet again how much talent and raw power lies within today’s underground scene. Although being an EP the album displays a prowess and prose that allows the listener to really grasp the full function of the band, and want a full release that much more.
“Paralytic” begins the album with a onset of old school thrash with heavy tech elements that blast their way into your memory. The vocals display influences of bands such as Coroner and Death giving the sense of a hybrid fusion between past and present styles, which is more so evident in the album’s third track “Winter.” Breaks, shifts, and blast beats drench every track while intricate riffing and harmonious overlays set the tempo for a debut performance that is simply oustanding.
Bottom line, an extremely impressive debut EP from a band who will remain on my watch list for 2012, proving yet again that the underground is a mighty and prevalent force that will continue to grow into a monster that can no longer be contained.
